Æthelstan’s Exeter code (V As)
This code survives in the Textus Roffensis and in a transcript from the sixteenth-century of a now severely damaged manuscript. Although often cited as V Æthelstan, it preceded the laws known as III and IV Æthelstan. The code promises to take strong action against those defying law.
It was translated into Latin c. 1100: see Quadripartitus
