Æthelred’s treaty with Olaf (II Atr)
Often referred to as II Æthelred, this treaty survives only in a twelfth-century manuscript from Corpus Christi College in Cambridge. The text is thought to refer to an agreement concluded in 994 between the Anglo-Saxon king, Æthelred II (978-1016), and three Viking leaders and sets out not only the terms of the peace but also the terms by which Scandinavians and Anglo-Saxons could live side by side in England.
It was translated into Latin c. 1100: see Quadripartitus.
